- Funeral services for Otis Ogden, 78 of Marshall will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2014 in the chapel of Downs Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., today, Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the funeral home. Mr. Ogden passed away July 2, 2014 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Otis Ogden was born April 16, 1936 in Jefferson Township, Ohio to Otis Oran Ogden and Audrey Lucille Pierce Ogden. On July 11, 1958 he married Danya Ward in Big Spring, Texas. Otis served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was employed by DARR Equipment in Longview where he started out as a mechanic and worked his way up to supervisor before retiring in 2003 after 20 years of service. He was mechanically inclined and could fix anything from helicopters to automobiles. Otis was a member of Nesbitt Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He officiated at his granddaughter, Chelsea’s wedding on April 28, 2014. He was a member of Gideon’s International, The Jucy’s Monday Night Gang and Golden Oldies at Nesbitt Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting.
Surviving Otis are his wife of 55 years, Danya Ogden of Marshall; Son, Brent Ogden and wife Suzy of Texarkana; Daughter, Christi Ogden of Tyler; two grandchildren, Charlie Ogden and girlfriend, Lauren Knight and Chelsea Dartez and husband Brett all of Nashville; Mother-in-law, Jane Ward; sister-in-law, Jeannie Jennings and husband Jed of Weatherford; brother-in-law, Donald Ward of Houston; special cousins, Tom and Myrna Burks; special friend, Donna Cefalu; five nieces and nephews and special dog, Molly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Audrey Ogden; one infant brother and father-in-law, D.J. Ward.
