- E. B. Vaughters, D.D.S., a longtime resident of San Juan Capistrano, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Chillicothe, Ohio on January 3, 1940 to Dorothy Ann Laeger and Eugene Boyer Vaughters, Erick spent his early years in Laguna Beach, moving to Los Angeles, where he graduated from Hollywood High School in 1958.
He met and married his wife Susan Leonard while they were both attending Los Angeles City College. They graduated from Cal State L.A. and moved to San Francisco, where Erick attended the University of the Pacific Dental School.
Erick and Susan returned to Orange County and settled in San Juan Capistrano in 1970, where he set up his dental practice of thirty-five years.
In addition to his dental practice, Erick's quest for knowledge led him to pursue a law degree, and in 1987 he graduated from Western State University College of Law.
Erick valued his contributions to his community. He volunteered on the board of the Mary Erickson Community Housing and always looked forward to hosting a San Juan Capistrano Swallow's Day celebration. His dental practice was his passion and throughout the years made many friends, always joking with his patients.
No one left Dr. Vaughters office without a smile. Erick loved to travel, camp, scuba dive, especially enjoying his many dive trips to Belize. An avid reader, Erick enjoyed science fiction and had a hypothesis for everything.
Erick is survived by his four daughters, his five grand children, and his mother-in-law. His wife forty-one years and his parents predeceased Erick.
A celebration of his life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the family home in San Juan Capistrano.
