    Notes

    • Jenkin and his family lived in Venango County Pensylvania for a time and they appear in the 1850 census. I have been unable to find his first wife, Catherine, after 1850. Jenkin moved down river to Scioto County, Ohio but children from his first marriage remained in Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Union Army September 8,1862 at Dunbarton in Adams County, and was promoted to Sergeant in Company F of the 7th Ohio Calvary. He was captured November 6, 1863 at Rogersville, Hawkins County, Tennessee. He arrived at the Confederate Prison Camp at Richmond Virginia on November 13. On February 18, 1864 he was in the first group transferred to Andersonville Prison in Georgia. He arrived at Andersonville on February 25. Prison conditions were horrible and consequently Jenkin became sick and was sent to the prison hospital May 23, 1864 where he died of dysentery. His grave is about 20 feet from the Iowa monument. It is reported that his mother lived to be 117 years old but stayed in Wales. His surname was originally Davies.
